How to Teach Mindfulness at Home: 5 Fun Ways
Mindfulness doesn’t need to be difficult. Despite what many people think, mindfulness is not just sitting on a pillow meditating. Mindfulness is paying full attention in a relaxed easy way. It’s noticing sensations, feelings and being aware of your surroundings in the present moment.
Here are some Fun and Simple Ways to Practice mindfulness at Home with your Kids:
1)Mindful Teeth Brushing
Pay attention to how the brush feels on your teeth, what does it taste like, what does it smell like, do the bristles feel soft or hard? What else can you notice?
2)Mindful Chores
What can you notice as you sweep the porch, wash the dishes, or even take out the garbage? What do you hear, see and feel?
3)Mindful Outdoor Time
Go outside and see what you can notice while you ride your bike, hike, walk, play, dig in the dirt, swing on the swing.
4)Mindful Homework
If your kids or teens have homework to do, suggest they pay full attention. How does the pen feel as it hits the paper, what do you notice in your mind and body as you work? Just be in the moment.
5)Mindful Playtime
Play a game or be silly together. What do you notice? How does your body and mind feel? What emotions come up?
